A new multi-purpose sports field
The U. S. Steel Community Field at Hazelwood Green is a new, multipurpose youth sports field along the Monongahela River designed to inspire the next generation of athletes in the Hazelwood community and broader Pittsburgh area. Accommodating a variety of sports year-round, the complex features a full-size athletic field with seating for approximately 3,000 spectators, a press box, concessions, and a renovated 10,000-square-foot support building connected by a tree-lined park and plaza. The facility will serve as a home playing field for the Hazelwood Cobras and Central Catholic High School.
This field stands on a former industrial site, once a hub that helped power both the regional and national economy. Today, the 178-acre brownfield has been reimagined through extensive redevelopment, transforming the riverfront into a center for innovation and public spaces. As part of this evolution, the new field brings recreational opportunities and community programming to land that once symbolized Pittsburgh’s industrial strength. It’s a powerful connection-because the same grit, tenacity, and toughness that defined the steelworker
